Shaedon Sharpe’s stint at the top of the national basketball recruiting rankings didn’t last long.

With the announcement Tuesday that Sharpe would be graduating from high school early and enrolling at Kentucky during the semester break this season, the national recruiting services have already started reclassifying him into the 2021 rankings.

247Sports got things started Tuesday night, moving Sharpe from the No. 1 spot in the 2022 class to the No. 3 spot in the 2021 class, behind only Gonzaga’s Chet Holmgren and Duke’s Paolo Banchero (and in front of players like Jaden Hardy, Jalen Duren and Emoni Bates). Rivals.com and ESPN both still had Sharpe at No. 1 in 2022 as of Wednesday morning, but it sounds like they, too, will be shifting him to the 2021 rankings soon enough.

That means Kentucky won’t be able to catch Duke for the No. 1 ranking in the 2022 cycle, and John Calipari won’t be getting his first No. 1-ranked recruit since Nerlens Noel in 2012. Numbers aside, Sharpe is obviously an important part of Kentucky’s future, and he’ll practice with the team later this season before making his debut in 2022-23.

The early signing period began Wednesday, and Sharpe, Skyy Clark, Chris Livingston and Cason Wallace all officially signed with the Cats by the end of the day.
