With Kentucky assistant coach Orlando Antigua sitting next to Jeff Sheppard in the North Laurel High School stands Monday night, Reed Sheppard scored 31 points to lead his Jaguars to a 70-52 victory over South Laurel, improving his team’s record to 4-1 after to a five-game homestand to start the season.

Sheppard, who committed to UK last month, came into the night averaging 20.2 points per game, with two nine-point games due to limited time in an early blowout and foul trouble in another victory. He led the state in scoring as a sophomore last season.

“Reed was spectacular tonight,” North Laurel Coach Nate Valentine said after Monday’s game.

Next up for Sheppard and the Jaguars will be a trip to Louisville for the King of the Bluegrass event, which begins Friday night with a game against Eastern High at Fairdale. The team will also be in Lexington this month, starting Dec. 26 with a matchup against Louisville Trinity at the Traditional Bank Holiday Classic at Lexington Catholic.
