More Kentucky basketball recruiting links: Catching up on the 2023 recruits with UK offers

Versatile wing Matas Buzelis became the latest recipient of a Kentucky scholarship offer earlier this week, picking up the honor during his official visit to Lexington.

Buzelis, the No. 12 overall player in the 247Sports composite rankings for 2023, becomes at least the seventh uncommitted junior to land a UK offer. That list already included combo guard DJ Wagner (No. 1 in the composite rankings), power forward Kwame Evans Jr. (No. 2), and wings Mackenzie Mgbako (No. 3), Mookie Cook (No. 4), JJ Taylor (No. 5) and Justin Edwards (No. 16). The Cats also have an early commitment from combo guard Reed Sheppard, the No. 22 player in the 2023 composite rankings.

Shooting guard Elijah Fisher (No. 17 in 2023) was reported to have received a UK offer earlier this year, but there hasn’t been much to link the Canadian prospect and Kentucky’s program in recent months. It’s become customary for the Wildcats to first host players from the 2023 class for official visits, and then extend the scholarship offers during those trips. That’s what happened with Buzelis, as well as Evans, Cook and Edwards earlier this fall. So far, every 2023 recruit that has come to Lexington for an official visit this year has left with a scholarship offer.

UK also hosted 2023 big man Isaiah Miranda earlier this week. There’s been no word of a scholarship offer for Miranda, but the Herald-Leader was told Thursday that his trip was actually an unofficial visit. Kentucky is closely monitoring his recruitment, which already includes offers from UConn, Memphis, Syracuse, Southern Cal and others. Miranda is the No. 32 overall player in the 2023 composite rankings.
