Kentucky Wildcats recruit Cason Wallace is on the list of semifinalists for the Naismith high school basketball player of the year award.

Wallace is one of 10 players on the list, which also includes three Duke signees (Kyle Filipowski, Dereck Lively II and Dariq Whitehead), UCLA signee Amari Bailey, Kansas signee Gradey Dick, Baylor signee Keyonte George, Texas signee Dillon Mitchell and Arkansas signee Nick Smith Jr. Also on the list of semifinalists is Camden (N.J.) guard DJ Wagner, who is a major UK recruiting target and is the only junior under consideration for the award.

ESPN ranks Wallace’s high school team, Richardson (Texas), as the No. 2 squad nationally, and Wallace had led them to a 25-1 record entering this week. His coach talked to the Herald-Leader about his season so far and future at UK earlier this week. The Naismith player of the year honor has been awarded since 1987, and Ron Mercer (1995) is the only Kentucky recruit to have ever won it.
