Reed Sheppard’s spot in the new rankings, and more Kentucky basketball recruiting links
On3.com updated its recruiting rankings for the class of 2023 on Monday, and Kentucky basketball commitment Reed Sheppard isn’t quite as high on that list as some others.
Sheppard, a junior guard who committed to the Cats last fall, is No. 27 in the new On3.com rankings. Both Rivals.com and 247Sports have him at No. 17 in the 2023 class, while ESPN ranks him 34th overall. Sheppard will lead North Laurel in the Sweet Sixteen at Rupp Arena this week.
South Carolina forward GG Jackson is the new No. 1 player in the On3.com rankings. Jackson could be announcing a college decision soon, and the hometown Gamecocks might be the favorites. He’s also a candidate to reclassify to 2022 and play college basketball next season. Duke and UNC are also in the mix.
Texas forward Ron Holland, a possible UK target, is the new No. 2 in the rankings. The uncommitted 2023 recruits with Kentucky scholarship offers on the new list are: DJ Wagner (No. 3), Kwame Evans Jr. (No. 4), Mackenzie Mgbako (No. 8), Mookie Cook (No. 9), Justin Edwards (No. 11), JJ Taylor (No. 12) and Matas Buzelis (No. 21).
