Duke has the No. 1 basketball recruiting class for next season and is already working on doing the same for the 2023 cycle. The Blue Devils landed another major prospect Friday evening.

Five-star guard Jared McCain, who was recently named the California player of the year as a junior, announced his commitment to Duke over fellow finalists Gonzaga and UCLA.

McCain — a 6-foot-3 shooting guard — led Centennial (Calif.) to a state championship this season and is the No. 23 overall player in the 2023 class, according to the 247Sports composite rankings. Duke already had commitments from point guard Caleb Foster (No. 12 in the 2023 rankings) and power forward Sean Stewart (No. 28), and the Blue Devils are widely considered the favorites for No. 3 overall recruit Mackenzie Mgbako, who is also a major Kentucky target for the 2023 cycle.
