Transfer talk heating up for Kentucky. And the latest UK basketball recruiting links.
More names of possible Kentucky basketball transfer targets have emerged over the past couple of days.
Louisiana State point guard Xavier Pinson, Missouri forward Trevon Brazile, and Texas Tech wing Terrence Shannon Jr. have all been linked to the Wildcats as possibilities out of the NCAA transfer portal, which is already at more than 700 players and growing fast, with bigger names expected to jump in soon.
Pinson spent this past season as the starting point guard at LSU, averaging 9.8 points and 4.8 assists per game, after spending the first three years of his college career at Missouri. He has one more season of eligibility remaining, and UK was briefly linked to Pinson last year before his LSU transfer. The 6-foot-1 senior shot a career-low 36.5 percent from the field and 24.2 percent from three-point range this season. He played AAU ball with the same Nike program out of Chicago that UK assistant Chin Coleman coached several years ago. Michigan State, Xavier and Arizona State also reached out Thursday night.
Brazile is a 6-9 forward who averaged 6.6 points, 5.1 rebounds and 1.9 blocks in 21.5 minutes per game as a freshman starter at home-state Missouri this season. 247Sports national analyst Eric Bossi referred to him as a player with “freaky good potential as a defender and offensive upside.”
Kentucky had contact with Shannon on Friday, and you can read more about his game and UK connections here.
UK lost former Mr. Basketball Dontaie Allen to the transfer portal Thursday.
