Kentucky basketball recruiting targets win gold, and the top links from the Next Cats blog
A USA Basketball squad featuring Kentucky Wildcats recruiting targets Ron Holland, DJ Wagner, Ian Jackson and Karter Knox defeated Spain, 79-67, on Sunday to win the gold medal at the FIBA U17 World Cup event.
Jackson, a major UK target for the 2024 class, led the team in scoring with 11.9 points per game, while Holland was second on that list with 11.1 points per game and third on the team with 6.6 rebounds per game. Knox (10.6 points and 4.6 rebounds per game) and Wagner (9.0 points and 2.9 assists per game) were also among the team leaders.
UK Coach John Calipari traveled to Spain to watch the team play its first few games in the FIBA event, and the national narrative around Wagner’s recruitment shifted over the weekend, with Kentucky overtaking Louisville as the favorite to land the No. 1 overall player in the 247Sports composite rankings for the 2023 class.
