The Kentucky Wildcats are once again the talk of college basketball due to their recruiting efforts, and the commitment of Justin Edwards on Monday night has brought UK one step closer to the top of the rankings.

With three five-star recruits now committed for the 2023 class, the Cats are ranked No. 2 — behind only Duke — in the 247Sports composite rankings. The Blue Devils already have four five-star commitments, though Kentucky’s trio of Edwards, Robert Dillingham and Reed Sheppard has the Cats in position to pass up their recruiting rivals.

UK remains in the mix for — among other possibilities — five-star prospects DJ Wagner, Ron Holland and Aaron Bradshaw, and the addition of any one of those three players would move the Cats past Duke for the No. 1 spot in the rankings. Wagner seems to be the most likely to make a college announcement next, and Kentucky is currently regarded as the favorite.

However this class shakes out, expect UK to add two or three (or possibly more) players from the 2023 class, and the Cats could very well beat out Duke for the top group nationally.
