Morehead State hosting Nevada in CBI finals opener on Monday
Morehead State’s men’s basketball team is two wins away from a championship.
The Eagles will host Nevada in the College Basketball Invitational finals at 8:30 p.m. Monday on ESPNU in the first game of a best-of-three series.
The second game will be played in Reno, Nev., on Wednesday, and a third game, if necessary, would take place there Friday.
Morehead State, which is 22-12 this season, reached the finals by defeating Ohio 77-72 this past Wednesday. It is the first time in program history that the Eagles have won three postseason games in one season.
Nevada (22-13) defeated Vermont 86-72 to reach the championship series.
The Eagles have won 10 of their last 11 games, with their lone loss coming in the Ohio Valley Tournament semifinals against Tennessee-Martin.
The Eagles’ 22 wins are their most since they finished the 2010-11 season at 25-10.
In the CBI, Xavier Moon is averaging a team-high 16.7 points and is perfect from the free-throw line in 22 attempts. He had 17 points against Siena, 15 against Duquesne and 18 against Ohio.
Morehead State is averaging 81.0 points per game in the CBI and is shooting 63-of-77 from the charity stripe. The Eagles shot 21-for-24 in a win at Siena and 20-for-22 in a win at Ohio.
They have outrebounded their three CBI opponents by 4.3 per game.
