Four players will be able to earn spots in this month's PGA Tour Barbasol Championship during the tournament's Open Qualifier in Richmond.

The Barbasol Championship is scheduled for July 19-22 at Keene Trace Golf Club in Nicholasville. The tournament field, which is gradually being unveiled in the buildup to the PGA Tour event, is set to include major winners Davis Love III, Angel Cabrera, Y.E. Yang and Brittany Lincicome.

The four spots up for grabs will be determined in an Open Qualifier on July 16 at Boone's Trace National Golf Club in Richmond. To gain entry to that event, interested professional and amateur players must advance through a Pre-Qualifier to be held July 10 at the University Club of Kentucky outside Lexington unless they are part of a pre-determined exempt list.

The top 25 including ties from the 18-hole Pre-Qualifier, will advance to the Open Qualifier.

The deadline to apply for the Pre-Qualifier was Wednesday (July 5) at kygolf.org. The entry fee was $200.

“These qualifiers can be life-changing for rising golfers,” said Brad Hicks, a PGA professional and director of golf for bd Global, which is promoting the tournament. “T.J. Vogel, for example, has earned seven PGA TOUR starts this year through Monday qualifiers and has put himself in a position to earn his Tour card at the end of the season. All it takes though is a player to get rolling and it can be the start of a pro career.”

Both qualifier events will be conducted by the Kentucky Section PGA with Bill Coomer, a PGA professional, serving as the tournament director for each event.

The PGA TOUR Barbasol Championship will be played July 16-22 at Champions at Keene Trace Golf Course. This will Central Kentucky’s first PGA TOUR event in years.
