A new, star-studded women’s golf event is coming to Central Kentucky. Here’s what to know.
A new women’s golf event coming to Central Kentucky is set to feature some of the most successful golfers ever to grace the LPGA Tour.
On Wednesday and Thursday, several former LPGA Tour stars will be at The Woodford Club in Versailles for an event designed to be a precursor to a larger women’s golf tournament next summer.
This week, the likes of Pat Bradley, Hollis Stacy and Jan Stephenson will be among nine former LPGA Tour stars that will be at The Woodford Club.
All three women are members of the World Golf Hall of Fame. The trio combined for 65 wins on the LPGA Tour and 13 major championship titles.
This week’s event — which is being referred to as The Woodford Legends Invitational — includes a Wednesday afternoon pro-am followed by a cocktail event and dinner.
Thursday will feature a morning swing exhibition and question-and-answer session, followed by an 18-hole team challenge event. The team challenge event will also include local women amateurs.
In June 2024, The Woodford Club is expected to host a larger event that would also feature legends from the LPGA Tour.
Currently, up to 32 former LPGA Tour players are expected to play in a Legends of the LPGA team invitation event that’s slated for June 6-8, 2024. That two-day team challenge event scheduled for next summer will also include a pro-am.
Legends of the LPGA is the official senior tour of the LPGA, and is open to LPGA Tour professionals and eligible amateurs who are age 45 and older.
In addition to Bradley, Stacy and Stephenson, six other renowned women’s golfers are set to take part in this week’s two-day showcase event.
This includes Jane Blalock (a 27-time winner on the LPGA Tour), Rosie Jones (a 13-time LPGA Tour winner), Michelle McGann (owner of seven LPGA Tour wins), Pat Hurst (a six-time LPGA Tour winner who captained the United States at the 2021 Solheim Cup), Alicia Dibos (who spent 10 years on the LPGA Tour) and Charlotta Sörenstam (the younger sister of World Golf Hall of Fame member Annika Sörenstam, and a past winner on the LPGA Tour herself).
Local amateur golfers set to take part in Thursday’s team challenge event include Susan Stewart (the Kentucky Women’s Senior Amateur champion and a Kentucky Golf Hall of Fame member), Alaina Schmitt (the Kentucky Women’s Amateur Champion) and Taryn Durham-Walker (the Kentucky Golf Association Women’s Stroke Play champion).
Those interested in either sponsorship opportunities or participation in Wednesday’s pro-am event should contact legends@thewoodfordclub.com via email or go to thewoodfordclub.com/legends-of-the-lpga.
Admission will be $5 per person for fans at the gate this week.
