With Lexington Catholic trailing 21-14 on the road, Knights quarterback Kirk Fagot fired his third touchdown pass of the night, a 22-yard strike to Nathan Schnurr with 13 seconds left in the game. But the extra-point attempt failed and Covington Catholic recovered the ensuing onside kick to saddle Catholic with its third straight loss, 21-20.

The Colonels took an early lead on an 80-yard interception return by Kameron Butler in the first quarter. But Lexington Catholic (1-3) scored 14 unanswered points on two Fagot touchdown passes to move in front. Covington Catholic (3-1) went ahead 21-14 after touchdown runs from Casey McGinness and Anthony Best.

Fagot completed 18 of 33 passes for 284 yards and 3 TDs. Ben Buchignani caught 10 passes for 132 yards and a touchdown, while Schnurr grabbed five passes for 108 yards. Sophomore running Dameon Jones carried 24 times for 170 yards and recovered a fumble in the fourth quarter to keep a Knights drive alive.

Covington Catholic quarterback AJ Mayer completed 20 of 36 passes for 242 yards, and Casey McGinness rushed 19 times for 109 yards and a score.
