Lexington Christian’s boys’ and girls’ soccer teams each recently advanced to the statewide All “A” Classic, which kicks off Saturday morning at Capitol View Park in Frankfort.

The girls defeated Danville in a 1-0 shootout last Thursday. The boys clobbered Somerset 5-0 on Tuesday.

Should the girls, who are knocking on the door of the top 25, advance past Middlesboro in the first round, they would likely play No. 9 Owensboro Catholic at 6 p.m. Saturday. No. 2 Murray, No. 3 Newport Central Catholic and No. 14 Bethlehem are all waiting on the other side of the bracket.

“In the last week we’ve made quite a bit of a change as far as formation, responsibilities and things like that,” girls’ coach Steve Fugmann said after the Eagles’ loss to Lexington Catholic on Tuesday. “We need a couple of days to work on it in practice situations and we just haven’t had that yet. We’re very, very positive about this weekend.”

LCA’s boys, who open against Pikeville, are favored to reached the championship game, where they would probably meet Collegiate. The Titans, who have lost just one game this season, are the state’s fourth-ranked team and the only top-25 squad in the field.

The girls’ finals are at 11 a.m. Sunday with the boys to follow. The complete bracket for both tournaments is available at bit.ly/2d4EAS4.
