The KHSAA drew pairings for the boys’ soccer, girls’ soccer and volleyball state tournaments during a live broadcast on Friday.

Boys’ and girls’ soccer have an eight-game, single-elimination state tournament with eight semi-state games leading up to the event. Volleyball uses a 16-team, one-and-done format like the Sweet Sixteen. Lexington teams play in the 11th Region for all three sports.

Pairings for both boys’ and girls’ soccer are the same. In both tournaments the winner of semi-state game No. 6 — a matchup between the winner of the 10th Region and 11th Region tournaments — will take on the winner of semi-state game No. 7 (13th Region vs. 16th Region).

The winner of the 11th Region volleyball tournament will face the winner of the 1st Region in the first round at state. That winner would face the winner from the 16th Region-13th Region match in the quarterfinals on Saturday.

The 7th Region, in which national powerhouses Assumption and Sacred Heart play, is in the bottom half of the bracket. If the 11th Region winner were to win out, it couldn’t face the 7th Region winner until the championship game.

Pairings for the field hockey state tournament were also determined, but because of the nature of that tournament — four regional runner-ups advance in addition to the four regional champions — exactly which region champions are paired with whom was not yet revealed. Those regions were represented by the letters A, B, C and D during the draw; the actual pairings will be revealed once regional champions have been determined.

Only 19 schools in the state currently offer girls’ field hockey. All of them are in Louisville except North Oldham and South Oldham.
