The Kentucky high school volleyball season started a week early, so that means the postseason’s here a week sooner as well.

Tournaments involving Lexington teams — the 42nd and 43rd District events — begin Monday and are set to be completed by Thursday. Scott County hosts the 42nd District tournament this year while the 43rd District will play in town at Lexington Catholic, the same site as the 43rd District boys’ soccer tournament (so get there early if you’d like a good parking spot!).

District champions and runners-up will advance to the 11th Region tournament at Scott County next week.

Henry Clay (42nd) and Paul Laurence Dunbar (43rd) each swept their respective districts and are ranked in the top 15 statewide.

The Blue Devils, the highest-ranked public school program at No. 6 in the latest coaches’ poll, went 26-8 in the regular season and 7-0 against 11th Region foes. They’ll get the winner between Scott County and Sayre in the semifinals.

Dunbar, ranked 13th, had the second-highest win total among 11th Region schools with a 24-9 record. The Bulldogs’ only in-region loss was to Henry Clay. Dunbar will open the postseason against either Lexington Christian Academy or Lexington Catholic.

Bryan Station, whose only district loss was to Henry Clay, plays Frederick Douglass in the other 42nd District semifinal. Tates Creek and Lafayette will play in the other 43rd District semifinal.
