Lafayette claims Region 7 title on way to state wrestling championships
Lafayette won the overall team title and had four weight class champions Saturday at the Kentucky High School Athletics Association’s Region 7 Wrestling Championships in Danville.
In all, seven Lafayette wrestlers advanced to next week’s state meet, including 132-champ Luke Chapman, 145-champ Azariah Saunier, 152-champ Brayden Gianonne and 285-champ Zac Stray.
Henry Clay’s Nathan Ainslie won the 120 class.
Madison Central came in second overall with 194 team points to Lafayette’s 225.5. The Indians had 113-champ Jonathan Gilbert, 126-champ Jeffrey Kinley, and 138-champ Zac Cowan,
All first through fourth place finishers qualify for next week’s KHSAA State Wrestling Championships at Alltech Arena in the Kentucky Horse Park.
