State swimming and diving championships underway at UK. See the results so far.

The Pannell Swim Shop/KHSAA State Swimming and Diving Championships got underway Thursday in a new location for the first time in years.

The Lancaster Aquatic Center on the campus of the University of Kentucky is hosting the three-day meet for the first time since 2006. For the past 13 years, it was held at the University of Louisville’s Ralph Wright Natatorium.

Action began with girls’ 1-meter diving Thursday morning. The boys’ diving took place Thursday night.

Girls’ swimming preliminaries start Friday at 10 a.m., with the finals getting underway at 6:30 p.m. The boys’ swimmers follow the same schedule on Saturday.

Henry Clay senior Van McKinley won the girls’ diving competition Thursday with a score of 503.15. She was followed by Madison Southern senior Flanary Patterson (463.95) and Lexington Catholic senior Mackie Redford (435.70).

Ticket sales will start at 9 a.m. on Friday and Saturday for each day’s preliminaries, and 4:30 p.m. for the evening sessions.

On Friday and Saturday, fans will be able to park in the Green Lot next to Kroger Field off Cooper Drive. On Saturday, paid parking will also be available in parking structure No. 7 off Sports Center Drive and overflow parking in the Greg Page Apartments Lot off of Alumni and Commonwealth Drives.

St. Xavier’s boys and Sacred Heart’s girls are the defending team champions. St. Xavier has won 31 consecutive championships. Sacred Heart has won seven in a row.

Paul Laurence Dunbar’s girls’ and boys’ teams swept the 2020 Region 8 meet at UK two weeks ago.
