Fayette schools establish COVID limits for sports attendance. See who will get in.
Lexington’s public and private high schools announced their fan attendance policies for sporting events as soccer and volleyball games began Tuesday night and football kicks off Friday.
Fans of Fayette County’s six public schools are limited to four or five people from each participant’s immediate family that must be submitted to an entry list before games. Lexington’s private schools all have lower limits.
Tickets are not being sold to the general public under any of the plans.
At Fayette’s public schools, there are provisions allowing cheerleaders and bands to participate. Cheer and band families follow the same admission limits as athletes’ families, district officials said Tuesday.
Everyone entering the competition venue is required to undergo a temperature check and health screening. Seating is assigned to families at least 6 feet apart from other families.
Masks are required for all spectators during the entire competition. The only exception is for those with a medical exemption documented by a medical doctor on official letterhead from the office issuing the exemption. Those who refuse to wear a mask for any other reason are not allowed entry or will be asked to leave the event.
Each school is deciding whether to offer limited concession stand sales. Some team parents have indicated that concessions are limited to bottled or canned drinks and prepackaged items. Rules are in place concerning how to enter and exit venues, and groups are not allowed to congregate before, during or after events.
As events began Tuesday night, the district was still finalizing its “Fayette County Public Schools Return to Competition Guidelines,” which include detailed information for students, staff and families. Each athletic director or coach will review the information with their teams and families.
The Fayette policies were hammered out by each school, individually, so there is some variance between the schools. According to parents from each school, the rules are as follows, but might not be limited to these provisions:
▪ At Bryan Station and Tates Creek: Five attendees per game participant as submitted on a standing list before the season. Those five people must remain the same all season.
▪ At Frederick Douglass and Lafayette: Five attendees per game participant as submitted before each game. Attendees can change from game to game.
▪ At Henry Clay and Paul Laurence Dunbar: Four attendees per game participant as submitted before each game. Attendees can change from game to game.
At Lexington’s religious and private schools, there are also restrictions and precautions.
Lexington Christian Academy is allowing three tickets per home player and coach and two tickets per visiting player and coach.
For soccer, to allow for those rules, school officials will clear the stadium after junior varsity games and clean the bleachers before they allow varsity fans in.
For volleyball, Lexington Christian can space out enough that they don’t have to clear the gym.
Lexington Christian is conducting temperature and symptom checks and has designated places for visiting fans and home fans to sit. Masks are required for all spectators, and the school is live-streaming every home game on its Facebook page @LCASports.
LCA is selling only pre-packaged goods and canned or bottled drinks.
Lexington’s private Sayre School is limiting home and away fans to two per participant and selling prepackaged food and bottled drinks.
Lexington Catholic High School will allow four family members from home participants and two family members from visiting participants at most games. Lexington Catholic expects to have a scaled-down concession stand of bottled drinks, chips and candies and request exact change if using cash.
