Lexington’s high school volleyball coaches have selected this year’s edition of the All-City Volleyball Team.

In addition, city coaches have introduced a new annual award in honor of the late Chris Beerman, the longtime college coach and club director at Lexington United Volleyball, who died from COVID-19 complications in January.

Lexington Catholic’s Avery Alexander has been chosen as the first recipient of The Chris Beerman Senior Award recognizing a senior who not only performs on the court but also in the classroom and in the community. Alexander was also selected for the All-City First Team in a nomination and vote process by the city’s nine coaches.

Paul Laurence Dunbar, the 43rd District champion and 11th Region runner-up, placed eight athletes on the All-City honorees list, including First Teamers Ava Jackson, Delaney Gash, Campbell Gash and Mia Telechbush.

Bryan Station, the 42nd District champion, had the next most First-Teamers with three, Izabella Carter, Mia Saenz and Olivia Bennett. Frederick Douglass led all teams with 11 honorees, including First Teamers Jamison Gordon and Peyton Hollon.
