The Kentucky Football Coaches Association on Friday announced its district players and coaches of the year, according to a vote of its membership.

From Central Kentucky, Lexington Christian’s Xavier Brown, Franklin County’s Kaden Moorman, Boyle County’s Jagger Gillis, Frederick Douglass’s Dane Key, Paul Laurence Dunbar’s Kamarion Robinson and Madison Central’s Brady Hensley were among the players honored. Brown is a Virginia commit. Moorman and Key are Kentucky commits.

Lexington’s Chad Pennington, Sayre; Doug Charles, Lexington Christian; and Wes Johnson, Paul Laurence Dunbar, were among those recognized as coaches of the year. So, too, were Central Kentucky’s Eddie James, Franklin County; Justin Haddix, Boyle County; Dennis Johnson, Woodford County; and Joe Chirico, Clark County. Charles and Dennis Johnson were also recognized for their undefeated regular seasons.

The KFCA also honored Johnson Central’s Jim Matney as Class 4A District 8 coach of the year posthumously.

The KFCA district player and coach of the year honors are a precursor to its class-by-class player and coaches of the year awards that are typically announced during the KHSAA’s state championship games where the district honorees will receive their awards.

The KFCA also will recognize a Mr. Football and state coach of the year at a later date. KFCA’s Mr. Football, awarded since 2018, is separate from the longer-standing Mr. Football awarded by the Associated Press.
