Frederick Douglass senior wins girls’ title at archery state championships
Abigail Stevenson, a Frederick Douglass senior, won the girls’ individual title at the KHSAA Archery State Championships presented by UK Healthcare held Tuesday at Ephram White Gymnasium in Bowling Green.
Stevenson notched a score of 296 out of 300, ranking her first among 257 competitors at the event and one point better than Pulaski County’s Baylee McQueen. Letcher County’s Kyla Raglin placed third.
According to Kentucky High School Athletic Association records, Stevenson’s score ties for third best in state tournament history with five other archers dating to the sport’s first sanctioned archery event in 2013.
Stevenson is the only Lexington archer to win a KHSAA championship in the nine years the competition has been held.

Anderson County won the boys’ team event ahead of Prestonsburg by a margin of 1989 to 1981. The girls’ team title went to Harrison County ahead of Anderson County by a margin of 1990 to 1981.
