Highlights: Bryan Station football gets first win; Boyle County tops Bowling Green
Highlights from Friday’s Kentucky high school football games:
Bryan Station 40, Tates Creek 19: Bryan Station (1-3) picked up its first win of the season thanks to a fourth-quarter surge in which the Defenders outscored Tates Creek (1-4) by a 19-6 margin.
Bryan Station scored the last 19 points of the game, including a pair of rushing touchdowns by senior Jeremiah Mundy-Lloyd.
This game featured back-to-back punt return touchdowns by each team: Senior Damin Green took a punt back 65 yards for a score for Bryan Station, and just three minutes later junior MarQuevion Smith took a punt back 70 yards for a score for the Commodores.
Frederick Douglass 54, Henry Clay 7: Frederick Douglass (5-0) stayed perfect on the season with a blowout road win at Henry Clay (2-3).
Douglass had 333 total offensive yards compared to just 76 total offensive yards from Henry Clay. Senior TJ Horton had two rushing touchdowns for the Broncos, and junior quarterback Cole Carpenter threw for two touchdowns, as well.
Douglass also scored once on special teams (punt return touchdown by senior Ty Bryant) and once on defense (interception return touchdown by senior Isaiah Kenney).
Scott County 48, Paul Laurence Dunbar 27: Scott County (4-0) ran for 368 yards and scored five rushing touchdowns in a commanding road win at Dunbar (1-4).
Sophomore running back Kayne Garrett was nearly unstoppable for the Cardinals, tallying 151 rushing yards and two rushing touchdowns while averaging nearly eight yards per carry.
Dunbar tried its best through the air to keep up with Scott County, as Dunbar senior quarterback Cole Colony threw for 265 yards and a touchdown.
Boyle County 35, Bowling Green 21: Boyle County (5-0) stayed perfect on the season and now owns the longest winning streak in Kentucky high school football (18 in a row) after an impressive road triumph at Bowling Green (4-1) in what was a matchup of undefeated teams.
Boyle County, winners of two straight Class 4A state championships, got three rushing touchdowns from junior Avery Bodner and a pair of touchdown passes from junior quarterback Sage Dawson in the win.
Bodner finished the game with 109 rushing yards and Dawson was 10-for-14 passing for 105 passing yards.
The Purples more than held their own on offense though, with sophomore quarterback Deuce Bailey throwing for 260 passing yards and junior wide receiver Easton Barlow hauling in three catches for 121 receiving yards.
Madison Central 46, Lafayette 0: Madison Central (5-0) outgained Lafayette (0-5) by a 376-71 margin in a dominant victory.
Senior quarterback Hagan Harrison had three touchdown passes for Madison Central, two of which went to senior wide receiver Jayden West, who also had a 31-yard interception return touchdown.
Senior Brock Eads had an 88-yard kickoff return touchdown for Madison Central to begin the second half.
Woodford County 36, Franklin County 21: The Yellow Jackets (5-0) are off to another hot start this season, and still have only lost only once in the last two seasons.
Woodford County got rushing touchdowns from seniors Kenyun Maxberry and Preston Stacy, and sophomore Leland Taylor.
Franklin County (1-4) already has as many losses as it did all of last season.
Lincoln County 42, East Jessamine 13: Lincoln County (1-4) got its first win of the season on homecoming against a still-winless East Jessamine (0-5) squad.
Lincoln County blew the game open with a 21-0 scoring advantage in the second quarter. Junior Sawyer Horton had 121 rushing yards and three touchdowns for the Patriots.
The win also was the first for Josh Jaggers as Lincoln County head coach.
Southwestern 35, Mercer County 13: Southwestern (4-0) avenged its only regular season loss from last season with a 22-point win over Mercer County (2-3).
Southwestern relied on its rushing game, totaling 363 rushing yards with senior Tanner Wright recording 152 rushing yards and two touchdowns on his own.
Paris 61, Morgan County 16: Jakari Ransom took the opening kickoff 77 yards for a touchdown and five more scores on his next seven touches as the Greyhounds (4-1) rolled. Paris QB Kaden Frederick threw for 276 yards and six touchdowns.
Sayre 14, Dayton 6: Luke Pennington combined with Charlie Slabaugh for a 13-yard passing TD and the Spartans (3-1) got a fumble recovery for a TD in the second half by Calvin Perez. Slabaugh notched 10 tackles and Camden Stout and Perez each had interceptions as Sayre’s defense held the Greendevils (2-3) scoreless until the final moments of the game.
Great Crossing 34, Bourbon County 7: The Warhawks (5-0) rushed for 238 yards with two scores from Zach Morris and touchdowns from Gabe Nichols, Jakeece Patterson and Cayden Allen. Clay Estes scored late in the fourth quarter to help the Colonels (1-4) avoid the shutout.
Ashland Blazer 69, West Jessamine 63: The Tomcats (2-3) turned a 56-49 deficit midway through the fourth quarter into their second win of the season as their defense got two key defensive stops late. Braxton Jennings’ 1-yard run and LaBryant Strader’s two-point conversion gave Ashland the lead. A fourth-and-4 stop at midfield set up another drive capped by a Strader TD run with under two minutes left. The Colts (2-3) had a bad snap over the punter’s head and into the end zone that helped set up a short field for the Jennings score.
Bracken County 48, Frankfort 27: Dylan Teegarden rushed for 217 yards and three TDs, and Daulton Tarter had 103 yards rushing and four scores as the Polar Bears (4-0) built a 40-13 lead by the end of the third quarter. Jaden Morgan scored twice for the Panthers (3-2), who got fourth-quarter TDs from Mason Leigh and Larry Carter.
Atherton 41, Danville 21: The Ravens (3-2) scored 34 unanswered points in the second half, 20 in the fourth quarter, aided by four consecutive fumbles by the visiting Admirals (2-3). QuaShawn Thompson hit Chance Thompson for TD passes of 55 and 28 yards, Demetrius Dunlap had two rushing TDs and Chance Thompson threw a 46-yard bomb to Trenton Spurling during the rally. Mauri Brown scored all three of Danville’s TDs.
Pulaski County 34, Madison Southern 8: Brysen Dugger threw for 241 yards and two TDs for the Pirates (4-1). Chandler Godby caught the two scores to go with 107 yards receiving. Ethan Idlewine led Pulaski with 91 rushing yards and a touchdown. Cade Sullivan had an 88-yard kickoff return for a TD for the Eagles (1-4).
Pineville 36, Berea 29: The Mountain Lions (5-0) turned back the Pirates (1-4) with a goal-line stand after a first-and-goal from the 5-yard line with under two minutes left. Pineville’s scores included a TD pass from Sawyer Thompson to Evan Biliter. Biliter also had an interception. Berea’s scored including a 98-yard TD reception by Shawn Kiett.
Johnson Central 54, Waverly, Ohio 7: The Golden Eagles (3-2) bounced back from back-to-back road losses with a dominating win at home. Jacob Grimm, Zack McCoart and Logan Music were among the scorers.
North Laurel 29, Barren County 7: The Jaguars (3-1) scored all their points in the second half on two rushing TDs by Ethan Gregory, another by Keaton Bowling and a 24-yard TD pass from Tucker Warren to Elijah Miller. Tanner Harper recovered a blocked punt in the end zone in the first half for Barren County (3-2).
Pikeville 48, Belfry 13: Blake Birchfield scored four TDs as the Panthers (2-2) dominated this matchup of defending state champions. Pikeville QB Isaac Duty also connected on a 40-yard TD pass to Wade Hensley and a 70-yard score to Braden Anthony. Dre Young and Caden Woolum scored for the Pirates (2-3).
Male 23, Trinity 21: DeAndre Malone blocked a punt late in the fourth quarter and Lance Gossett’s 26-yard field goal on the ensuing possession helped the Bulldogs fend off a furious second half rally by the Rocks and avoid a third straight loss. Male had a 21-0 lead at half on TD passes from Lucas Cobler to Josh Fuller and Antonio Harris and a pick six by Remel Sheffield. Trinity answered with two scoring throws from Will DeSensi to Jeremiah Lynn and a Luke Sasser TD run.
South Warren 36, Paducah Tilghman 3: Bryce Button threw TD passes to Drew Givens and Ethan Reynolds and the Spartans (2-2) got TD runs from Cristian Conyer and Jimmy Sales. Reynolds also had a 27-yard pick six. Nolan Walter kicked a 28-yard field goal for the Blue Tornado (2-2), whose offense struggled with three interceptions and seven sacks against South Warren’s defense.
Covington Catholic 31, Beechwood 14: Evan Pitzer had 156 yards and two TDs passing and 36 yards and a score rushing, while Owen Leen racked up 150 yards on the ground and a touchdown as the Colonels (4-1) defense held the Tigers (4-1) to 117 total yards. Beechwood scored on a 95-yard kickoff return by Antoni Robinson and a James Cusick pass from Cash Harney.
Rockcastle County 62, South Laurel 12: Christian Larkey and Ethan Medley both topped 100 yards rushing for the Rockets (3-2). Four players had rushing TDs for Rockcastle, led by Larkey’s three.
Bell County 38, Whitley County 28: Dawson Woolum had 142 yards and a touchdown rushing, a fumble recovery for a score and Daniel Thomas piled on 136 yards and two rushing scores as the Bobcats built a 38-8 lead in the first half.
