Frederick Douglass’s Josh Carr is Lexington’s boys’ soccer player of the year as voted on by the city’s nine coaches in ballots gathered by the Herald-Leader for the 2022 All-City Boys’ Soccer Team.

Carr, a senior midfielder/forward also recently named 11th Region offensive player of the year, has been a four-year starter for the Broncos and helped Douglass (17-1-4) to an undefeated regular season, the program’s first 42nd District Tournament championship and a runner-up finish in the 11th Region. He scored 14 goals and led the team in assists with 10.

Carr edged out Paul Laurence Dunbar’s Kasen Johnston for the top spot on the first team and was joined there by Broncos teammate Cooper Ranvier. Dunbar, the 11th Region champions, led first-team selections with three, also getting Joany “Gio” Chavez and Mason Feddock on the list with Johnston. Lafayette had two first-teamers, Sawyer Trowell and Angel Montiel. Bryan Station’s Serge Nkomeza, Tates Creek’s Jair Leal Gutierrez, Lexington Catholic’s Michael Barnett and Henry Clay’s Andrew Hoten rounded out the top vote-getters.

Here are Lexington’s 2022 All-City Boys’ Soccer Teams. Players were nominated and voted on by the city’s coaches, who ranked their first- and second-team choices with 22 points allotted to their player of the year, 21 to the next player, etc.
