District matchups set as boys’ and girls’ high school postseason begins Monday

Pairings have been set for all four districts of Central Kentucky’s 11th Region boys’ and girls’ high school basketball teams and the postseason begins Monday.

The 11th Region contains some of the state’s top teams in both boys’ and girls’ basketball and their seasons depend on how they fare next week.

On the boys’ side, the 43rd District has Lexington Catholic, rated No. 1 in the state, according to the latest Dave Cantrall Ratings and No. 2 by the most recent media poll. The 42nd District is topped by No. 14/9 Frederick Douglass, which will be going for its fourth straight district crown.

Outside of Lexington in the boys’ tournaments, the 41st District features No. 18/6 Great Crossing, while the 44th District has No. 10 Madison Central, which has remained high in the computer ratings despite its 15-13 record. The Indians arguably have faced one of the toughest schedules in the state.

On the girls’ side, No. 14 Frederick Douglass of the 42nd District is the highest-rated team in the 11th. But the Broncos were a No. 2 seed in their district tournament a year ago and got upset by Henry Clay in the semifinals, ending their season prematurely.

The other top girls’ teams include No. 21 Madison Central of the 44th District and No. 23 Franklin County of the 41st District.

The Flyers are three-time defending 11th Region champions and haven’t lost to an 11th Region opponent since March 2, 2019, a span of almost four full seasons. They haven’t lost in the 41st District Tournament since 2013.

All district semifinals winners advance to their subsequent 11th Region Tournaments, which begin the following week. District champions will host their first round region tournament games with the semifinals and finals all played at Eastern Kentucky University’s Baptist Health Arena.

Below are the four district tournament schedules for boys and girls, beginning with the 42nd and 43rd, which include Lexington’s teams. Each team’s record is through Wednesday.

Lexington Catholic’s Hudson Sparks (31) puts up a shot during the top-ranked Knights’ win over Great Crossing at Franklin County High School last month. LexCath and Great Crossing enter the postseason as two of the highest-rated teams in the 11th Region.
