Frederick Douglass’ Scarberry, Madison Central’s True named region coaches of the year
Frederick Douglass boys’ basketball’s Wes Scarberry and Madison Central girls’ basketball’s Scott True have been selected as 11th Region coaches of the year by the Kentucky Association of Basketball Coaches.
They were among the coaches honored in each region in conjunction with the announcement of KABC’s region players of the year on Friday. Those players are this year’s nominees for Mr. Basketball and Miss Basketball.
This is the second KABC coach of the year recognition for Scarberry, who last won it as the head coach of Model in 2013. Scarberry has been interim head coach at Douglass since October and led the Broncos to a 25-2 record, a top seed in the 42nd District tournament next week and a No. 9 ranking in the latest media poll.
True is in his first season as head coach at Madison Central and has led the Indians to an 18-6 record and top seed in the 44th District tournament next week. Madison Central ranks as the No. 21 team in the state, according to the latest ratings by Dave Cantrall.
