Coaches name 2024 All-11th Region boys basketball team
Great Crossing’s Malachi Moreno and Bryan Station coach Champ Ligon took top honors as the 11th Region’s boys high school basketball coaches named their all-region teams and coach of the year.
Moreno, a 7-foot-1 junior center who has reported offers from at least 23 colleges including Kentucky, earned player of the year honors as the top vote-getter among All-11th Region first-team players. He’s averaging 15.6 points and 13.3 rebounds for the No. 1 Warhawks. Moreno netted 10 player of the year votes among the 18 coaches voting.
Ligon, who returned to Bryan Station three seasons ago after stints elsewhere, has guided the Defenders to a 22-6 record and top seed in this week’s 42nd District Tournament. Ligon was also recognized recently as 11th Region coach of the year by the Kentucky Association of Basketball Coaches.
First-team awards and the coach of the year honors will be presented between the boys 11th Region semifinals next week at Paul Laurence Dunbar High School.
