The 2024 Lexington Herald-Leader All-State Boys Basketball Team is here
The Herald-Leader is proud to announce its 2024 All-State Boys Basketball Teams as voted on by high school coaches across the commonwealth.
Lyon County’s Travis Perry, who recently led the Lyons to the UKHealthCare Boys’ Sweet 16 state championship and earned Mr. Basketball and Sweet 16 MVP honors, unsurprisingly tops our All-State list as the Herald-Leader’s Boys Basketball Player of the Year.
Perry, a 6-2 guard who has signed with Kentucky, appeared on all 124 coaches’ ballots submitted and received 91 votes for player of the year. He is unofficially Kentucky boys high school basketball’s all-time career points leader with 5,481 points, far surpassing previous record-holder “King” Kelly Coleman (4,337).
Harlan County’s Trent Noah, a South Carolina signee who wowed Rupp Arena with 48 points in the Sweet 16 quarterfinals and helped the Black Bears earn state runner-up, received 30 player of the year nods.
Also joining Perry and Noah on the first team are Perry’s Lyon teammate Brady Shoulders and fellow state tournament players Malachi Moreno and Vince Dawson of Great Crossing, Kade Unseld of Warren Central and Zander Carter of Ashland Blazer. Oldham County’s Max Green, Seneca’s Quel’Ron House and Lexington Catholic’s Tyler Doyle round out the first-teamers.
The Herald-Leader All-State Teams are based on coaches’ selections in a statewide survey conducted by the Lexington Herald-Leader/Kentucky.com. Players are listed in order of point totals based on coaches’ votes. There are three teams of 10 players, plus 20 honorable mentions.

Methodology: Our annual All-State survey was emailed to all 272 KHSAA boys basketball coaches in Kentucky using their email registered with the KHSAA. Multiple attempts were made to encourage every school to participate. Coaches were asked to select their top 10 players and points were assigned based on a player’s position on the ballot (10 points for Player of the Year, nine points for No. 2, eight points for No. 3, etc.), and tabulated across all ballots received. The top 50 players receiving votes made our All-State list. This year, 124 coaches participated and all 16 regions were represented.
