Boyle County star and Kentucky signee Montavin Quisenberry named 2024’s Mr. Football

Boyle County’s Montavin Quisenberry has been named 2024’s Mr. Football by the Kentucky Football Coaches Association.

Quisenberry, a 5-foot-9, 160-pound two-way standout as a multi-purpose offensive threat and defensive back, is a Kentucky signee who was part of Class 4A state championship teams as a sophomore and a junior for the Rebels and helped Boyle County to a 12-1 record and national ranking in 2024. He was named MVP of Boyle County’s 2023 state championship game.

As a senior, Quisenberry led Boyle County in receiving with 794 yards and 13 touchdowns to go with 882 yards and 13 TDs rushing. He also had special teams TDs on a kickoff and punt return and led the Rebels with three interceptions to go with 31 tackles.

For his four-year career that included a freshman season as Garrard County’s quarterback, Quisenberry had 4,192 yards and 60 TDs rushing, 2,509 yards and 38 TDs receiving, seven punt return TDs and five kickoff return TDs. He also threw for 1,316 yards and 15 touchdowns.

The KFCA also announced Sayre’s Chad Pennington as the Jimmie Reed Coach of the Year award winner. Pennington led the Spartans to a 15-0 record and Class A state championship just seven years after helping found the school’s football program. Sayre defeated Raceland 27-22 in the Class A state title game at Kroger Field on Dec. 6.

Quisenberry was among 10 finalists named by the KFCA for the Mr. Football award and the only one among them to sweep Kentucky’s other statewide honors as the winner of the Louisville Quarterback Club’s Paul Hornung Award on top of being named Kentucky Gatorade Player of the Year. Quisenberry also had been named Class 4A player of the year by the KFCA. In the preseason, Quisenberry was recognized as the state’s No. 1 player in a Herald-Leader survey of the state’s coaches.

The other KFCA finalists for Mr. Football were Class A player of the year Brock Coffman of Sayre, Class 2A player of the year Brady Atwell of Owensboro Catholic, Class 3A player of the year Cortez Stone of Central, Class 5A player of the year Deuce Bailey of Bowling Green and Class 6A player of the year Antonio Harris of Male as well as Paducah Tilghman’s Jack James, Christian Academy-Louisville’s Connor Hodge, South Warren’s Bryce Button and Union County’s Jarren Johnson.

Since 2019, the KFCA has named its Mr. Football based on a vote from its membership. The historic Mr. Football honor that was chosen by Kentucky members of the Associated Press from 1986 to 2021 no longer exists.
