Here are the 2025 Lexington All-City baseball teams and player of the year
The Lexington Herald-Leader and Kentucky.com present the 2025 All-City Baseball Team and player of the year as voted on by the nine high school coaches of Lexington’s varsity KHSAA programs.
Sayre senior outfielder Charlie Slabaugh topped a tight grouping for the top spot among First Team honorees to take Lexington player of the year honors.
The Columbia commit led the 11th Region champion Spartans with a .386 batting average to go with 37 RBI, 34 runs scored and a homer. His hustling play in the sixth inning of this season’s 11th Region title game helped Sayre tie the game and set up his go-ahead hit in the Spartans’ first-ever region championship win.
Slabaugh got three top player votes and was closely followed on the first team by three players who equally split the other six — Lexington Catholic’s Jack Sams and Owen Jenkins and Lexington Christian’s Joseph Seigler.
Rounding out the first team were Frederick Douglass’ Calvin Johnson and Clark Tackett, Sayre’s Gary Gibson, Lexington Catholic’s Cody Decker, Tates Creek’s Cooper Jackson and Lexington Christian’s Blake Campbell.
Lexington’s nine varsity baseball coaches were asked to nominate players for All-City consideration. Later, the coaches ranked, one through 10, their top players from that list of nominees. Coaches are not permitted to vote for their own players on the final ballot.
Selections were made regardless of position and each team was limited to a maximum of five All-City honorees. Point values were assigned to each voting position, 10 points for first-place votes, nine points for second-place votes, etc.) and the accumulation of those points was used to create the First and Second Teams each composed of 10 players.
