A Kentucky high school football coach has been suspended for two games after using “inappropriate language,” though school officials would not share details of the incident, citing it as a personnel matter.

Leslie County High School football coach Brian Hubbard was the subject of the disciplinary action, Superintendent Brett Wilson said Wednesday in a statement. The superintendent did not tell the Herald-Leader what the inappropriate language was, if it happened in front of students or identify the two games subject to suspension.

“Because this involves personnel, we’re unable to share additional details beyond what was released. We won’t be releasing any additional information,” Wilson told the Herald-Leader in an email Wednesday morning.

The team has one regular season game left against Betsy Layne High School Friday, Oct. 31, an away game, and at least one play off game. The team has to win a playoff game for Hubbard to get back on the sidelines this year.

Hubbard was not at the high school Wednesday, staff members said. He is considered “personnel,” but Wilson did not immediately describe Hubbard’s position or if it is a teaching role.

“The Leslie County School District holds all staff members, including our coaches, to high standards of professionalism and conduct,” Wilson said in the initial statement. “Following a report received after our most recent football game, the district conducted an internal investigation. As a result, our Head Football Coach has been suspended for two games due to the use of inappropriate language. It is essential that all employees model the respect and behavior we expect from our students and athletes.

“The district has addressed this matter directly with our Head Coach,” the statement continued, “and appropriate corrective steps have been taken in accordance with district policy. Our focus remains on supporting our student-athletes, maintaining the integrity of our athletic programs, and ensuring that all interactions — on and off the field — reflect the values of the Leslie County School District.”

This is Hubbard’s first season as head coach. The Leslie County High School Eagles are 2-7 on the season and 1-3 in their district, a step down from the winning seasons they had under former coach Eddie Milton the last two years.

Leslie County lost 49-14 at Prestonsburg Oct. 17, a Class 2A, 7th District rival.

WYMT reported Hubbard played for the Eagles as a wide reciever and defensive back from the 2003-04 season to the 2006-07 season. In that time as a player, Hubbard won a district championship in 2005.
