Kentucky football coaches name district players and coaches of the year for 2025

The Kentucky Football Coaches Association has announced its district players, linemen and coaches of the year, according to a vote of its membership.

The honorees included seven players from Lexington: Sayre’s Caden Jones and Wyatt Moore, Lexington Christian’s Tyler King, Tates Creek’s Darnell Burnside, Frederick Douglass’ Dakari Talbert, Lexington Catholic’s Mark Hosinski and Paul Laurence Dunbar’s Josiah Hernandez.

“Lineman of the year” awards — including Moore, Hosinski and Hernandez — are new. KFCA executive director Jeff Marksberry said coaches have wanted to award such an honor for some time.

Among the coaching winners are Sayre’s Chad Pennington, Lexington Catholic’s David Clark and Lafayette’s Jon Lawson.

An overall statewide lineman of the year award will be named in honor of the late Philip Haywood, Belfry’s legendary coach and Kentucky’s all-time football coaching wins leader. That award and the KFCA’s Mr. Football and Jimmie Reed Coach of the Year honors typically are announced at the conclusion of the season.

The class-by-class players, linemen and coaches of the year will be announced during the state championships Dec. 5-6 at Kroger Field.

This year’s Mr. Football, an award reserved for the state’s most outstanding senior, is not necessarily among these district honorees, who include underclassmen.

The finalists for Mr. Football will be announced at a later date.
