Jake Feldhaus and Ashlinn James are Kentucky’s 2026 Mr. and Miss Basketball

Kentucky high school’s Mr. and Miss Basketball honors were presented to Madison Central’s Jake Feldhaus and Assumption’s Ashlinn James at an awards ceremony on Sunday evening.

Feldaus, a 6-foot-8 senior forward signed with Belmont, helped lead the Indians to a 30-4 record and No. 1 regular season ranking, averaging 20.7 points, 13 rebounds and 2.3 assists per game and shot 57.6% from the field.

“It’s great that seeing some of the work paid off,” Feldhaus said. “But (also) knowing I still have more work to do, especially going up to the next level. Just being able to add to the Feldhaus family history is great.”

James, a 5-foot-8 senior guard signed with Indiana, averaged 15 points, five rebounds, five assists and four steals per game for the Rockets, helping them win the 7th Region championship and advance to the Clark’s Pump-N-Shop Girls’ Basketball Sweet 16 championship game a week ago.

“It’s amazing. I’m super excited about this,” James said. “I’m just super grateful for my teammates, my family, my coaches and the support system that’s been there the whole time.”

The awards and other honors were presented by the Kentucky Lions Eye Foundation in conjunction with the Kentucky Association of Basketball Coaches at Lexington’s Griffin Gate Marriott.

On Friday, Jake Feldhaus was announced as the Kentucky Gatorade player of the year, the same honor his father, Deron Feldhaus claimed in 1987. The elder Feldhaus missed out on Mr. Basketball that year as it went to his future University of Kentucky “Unforgettables” teammate John Pelphrey.

“It’s a great feeling kind of living up to what he had done but making my own path,” Jake Feldhaus said. “It’s kind of cool being able to one-up him on that. He’s going to know it for sure.”

Jake Feldhaus played for his uncle, Allen Feldhaus Jr., one Kentucky’s winningest boys high school basketball coaches, his junior and senior seasons. His grandfather, the late Allen Feldhaus Sr., played for Adolph Rupp at Kentucky and coached at Mason County for decades.

Feldhaus became the second Madison Central player to earn Mr. Basketball, joining its 2013 winner, Dominique Hawkins. He’s the second 11th Region player in a row to earn it, following Great Crossing’s Malachi Moreno, who was UK’s starting center this season.

James joins Assumption’s Jenni Benningfield (2000) as the only Rockets to be named Miss Basketball. She’s the second 7th Region player in a row to earn the honor, following Sacred Heart’s ZaKiyah Johnson.

As Mr. and Miss Basketball, Feldhaus and James also earned the No. 1 jersey for their respective teams for the annual Kentucky-Indiana All-Start Series held each summer.

The Mr. and Miss Basketball awards are reserved for seniors and they are chosen from a previously announced list of KABC boys and girls region players of the year. All were honored at the ceremony, which also is a fundraiser for the KLEF, a charitable non-profit organization whose mission is to provide vision services to those in need. Mr. and Miss Basketball voters include KABC coaches, members of the high school sports media and past winners.
