Friday’s basketball highlights: Lincoln Co. boys edge Bryan Station

BOYS

Lincoln County 44, Bryan Station 43: Devin Alcorn made a pair of free throws with 33 seconds left to help the Patriots edge visiting Bryan Station. The Defenders had trailed by six early in the fourth quarter before rallying to take the lead at 43-42 on a three-pointer by Andre Davis.

Alcorn finished with seven points, seven rebounds, five assists and two steals. Wade Goode scored a game-high 18 points and had four steals for the Patriots. Davis was Bryan Station’s leading scorer with 12.

Paul Dunbar 72, Lexington Christian 57: The Eagles got as close as seven points twice in the fourth quarter before No. 1 Paul Dunbar pulled away for a victory at home. Taveion Hollingsworth scored 30 points a grabbed six rebounds, both team highs. Kyle Rode had 23 points and eight rebounds for Lexington Christian.

Lafayette 74, Tates Creek 43: No. 5 Lafayette had no problem taking care of host Tates Creek. Harrison Lane scored 16 points, including three threes, and Ross Jenkins had eight points and 12 rebounds for the Generals.

Covington Catholic 60, Conner 29: No. 2 Covington Catholic cruised to a victory over No. 24 Conner. Cole VonHandorf led the Colonels with 15 points, five rebounds, five assists and two steals. CJ Fredrick and Andy Flood added 12 points apiece

Mercer County 77, Burgin 22: No. 4 Mercer County downed the Bulldogs to remain undefeated at 16-0. Will Hager and Dylan James both scored 15 points.

Boyle County 51, Garrard County 36: Colton Elkins nearly had a triple-double with 17 points, 12 rebounds and eight blocked shots in the Rebels’ defeat of visiting Garrard County.

Johnson Central 92, Belfry 73: Mason Blair scored 30 of his 43 points in the first quarter in the Golden Eagles’ win over Belfry. The senior guard was 16-for-26 from the field and 7-for-8 from the free-throw line.

GIRLS

Franklin County 69, Western Hills 39: Princess Stewart had 29 points, seven rebounds, two assists, three steals and four blocks in No. 8 Franklin County’s rout of host Western Hills. Rebecca Cook added 17 points, seven rebounds, five steals and four blocks.

Scott County 91, Bryan Station 61: Sidney Sutherland scored 27 points and grabbed 16 rebounds in the Lady Cards’ road win over the Defenders.

Lafayette 56, Montgomery County 48: Sarah Arnett scored 17 points and Kiara Pankins had 14 points, 14 rebounds and eight blocked shots in Lafayette’s victory at Montgomery County.

Lexington Catholic 47, Tates Creek 34: Caroline Osbourn was an efficient 6-for-7 from the field for a game-high 19 points in Lexington Catholic’s home win over the Lady Commodores.

Sayre 46, Dayton 33: Dee Dee Wheeler scored 20 points in host Sayre’s win over Dayton. Hannah Brady had five points, seven assists and three steals.

Male 67, Ballard 17: The fourth-ranked Bulldogs got 17 points from Emilia Sexton and 12 from Illyah Green in a 67-17 defeat of visiting Ballard. Green also had eight rebounds and four blocks to help Male improve to 12-1.

Jenkins 64, Letcher County Central 44: Lady Cavaliers star Whitney Creech scored 50 points in Jenkins home win over the Lady Cougars, marking Jenkins’ first victory over Letcher County Central in eight years.
