Football: National Guard Border Bowl to be played Saturday
Kentucky will seek its third straight win when it takes the field against Tennessee in the ninth annual National Guard Border Bowl on Saturday.
The game, which is played at the University of the Cumberlands in Williamsburg, kicks off at 2:05 p.m. and will be broadcast live on ESPN3.
Forty-three players from across the state were selected to compete in the event, including four from Lexington: Bryan Station’s Andre Davis (wide receiver) and Mikel Horton (defensive lineman), Paul Laurence Dunbar defensive lineman Nick Martin and Tates Creek quarterback Peyton Burke.
Scott County’s Tyler Braxton and Keith Guy were chosen for the team, as were Madison Southern running back Payton Skidmore, Western Hills offensive lineman Corey Miracle and Woodford County offensive lineman Matt Stratton.
Central Coach Ty Scroggins is the head coach of the Kentucky squad. Bryan Station Coach Frank Parks is coaching defensive backs.
Parks, who played at Georgetown College, has played in Cumberlands’ stadium a time or two himself. Williamsburg doesn’t have quite as many distractions as Lexington, so it’s football, football, football for the players.
“You don’t have to worry about the kids going and getting into anything cause there ain’t nothing to get into down here,” Parks said with a laugh.
