Prep basketball roundup: Top-ranked Paul Dunbar boys lose their 2nd straight
Boys’ games
Taylor County 55, No. 1 Paul Laurence Dunbar 54: Led by David Sloan’s 21 points and a triple-double from Quentin Goodin, the host Cardinals handed the top-ranked Bulldogs their second straight loss. Goodin had 13 points, 11 rebounds and 10 assists. Dunbar, which had dropped a 66-63 decision at Henry Clay on Thursday night, got 22 points from Jordan Lewis in this one.
No. 4 Henry Clay 65, No. 16 North Hardin 44: Isaiah Tisdale scored 25 points, including four three-pointers, and the Blue Devils rolled to a victory over the Trojans in the Shoot for the Cure Classic at Nicholas County. Leander Ridgeway added 11 points, eight rebounds and four assists, and Jordan Houston scored nine points and grabbed 12 boards. Tony Jackson was the star for North Hardin. He had 24 points, three rebounds, five blocked shots and four steals.
Lexington Christian 74, Boyle County 56: The host Eagles’ Kyle Rode nearly had a triple-double with 23 points, 11 rebounds and nine assists. Carter Hendrickson added 16 points and four assists for LCA while Colton Elkins supplied 19 points, seven rebounds and two blocks for the Rebels.
No. 22 Lexington Catholic 85, Clay County 73: Luke Johnson had 22 points and 10 assists for the host Knights. The Tigers got 29 points and 10 rebounds from Blake Smith.
No. 25 Owen County 78, South Oldham 75: Carson Williams poured in 40 points and grabbed 15 rebounds in the victory.
Girls’ games
No. 6 Franklin County 63, Paul Laurence Dunbar 22: The Flyers followed up their defeat of top-ranked Elizabethtown with a rout of the Bulldogs in Lexington. Princess Stewart led the way with 15 points, five rebounds and four assists.
Lafayette 62, Boone County35: Kiara Pankins scored 20 points, grabbed four rebounds and had four steals in the Generals’ road win.
