Lexington Christian girls and boys advance to 43rd District semifinals

Lexington Christian’s girls prevailed in a tight contest 51-48 against Tates Creek to reach the semifinals of the 43rd District tournament at Lafayette.

The Eagles led throughout the fourth quarter, but never by more than four points.

LCA’s Grace Combs scored seven of her game-high 17 points in the final period. She finished 8-for-10 at free-throw line and also had three rebounds, four steals, two assists and two blocks.

Sydney Weeks added 16 points and seven rebounds, and Payton Rodgers had five points, nine rebounds and for blocks for the Eagles.

Tamira Watts and Shaytara Wilson both scored 11 points for the Commodores.

Next up for LCA is a matchup with the district-host Generals.

Boys’ game

Lexington Christian 62, Tates Creek 50: LCA jumped out to a 4-2 lead with just under three minutes off the clock and led the rest of the way to advance to the 43rd District semifinals to face Paul Dunbar.

Kyle Rode led all scorers with 25 points to go with 12 rebounds and a block. The Eagles pounded the boards, outrebounding Tates Creek 41-26. Tre King was the only other Eagle in double figures with 17 points, nine rebounds and two blocks.

LCA had assists on 17 of its 21 field goals, led by Rode with six, and got 18 points from its bench.

It held Tates Creek, which had zero bench points, to just 26.5 percent shooting.

Eric Boone scored 23 for the Commodores.
