Basketball highlights: Lexington Christian boys roll into All ‘A’ semifinals; Scott County pounds Douglass
Senior forward Carter Hendrickson scored a game-high 18 points as hot-shooting Lexington Christian dominated Louisville Collegiate 64-42 in the quarterfinals of the All ‘A’ Classic state tournament at Eastern Kentucky University on Friday night.
Hendrickson knocked down six of 10 shots from the field and all six of his free throws and added six rebounds and four steals. The Eagles (15-6), who have won eight straight games, shot 46.2 percent from the field and forced 21 turnovers which they converted into 31 points. Kyle Rode had eight points, seven assists and six rebounds in the win. Chez Moore led Collegiate (18-5) with 15 points and five rebounds.
LCA will face Knott County Central in the semifinals at 6 p.m. on Saturday. The Patriots knocked off Beechwood 51-33 in the quarterfinals.
Scott County 84, Frederick Douglass 48: Diablo Stewart and Michael Moreno led the way as the host Cardinals rolled to their 12th straight win. Moreno had a double-double with 20 points and a game-high 12 rebounds while Stewart droppped a game-high 22 points on eight-of-13 shooting, including a 6-for-8 mark from behind the arc.
Scott County (20-1) shot 49 percent from the floor and scored 19 second-chance points. The Cardinals pulled down 15 offensive rebounds and swiped 14 steals. Montaveon Bean and Jacob Kenny led Douglass (9-11) with nine points apiece.
Lexington Catholic 70, Tates Creek 46: Zan Payne scored 28 points on 13-of-18 field-goal shooting as the host Knights dealt the Commodores their sixth straight loss. Keegan Bailey added 10 points and three steals for LexCath (15-6), which outrebounded the Commodores 33-20. Deonte Edmonds led Tates Creek (4-116) with 20 points.
Lafayette 64, Henry Clay 60: Evan Dreux knocked down five of six shots from the field and scored a team-high 17 points as Lafayette erased an eight-point halftime deficit to beat the host Blue Devils. TeAndre Newcomb added 13 points and six rebounds for the Generals (15-5), who escaped with the win despite being outrebounded 34-23.
Marquez Warrick led Henry Clay (11-9) with 17 points while Andreus Green posted a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds.
Girls’ games
Bryan Station 68, Frederick Douglass 53: Kelynn Clay scored a team-high 21 points and Kyrah Hardin added 17 as host Bryan Station (8-11) won its second straight. The Defenders overcame a monster night from junior Destyne Jackson, who poured in 41 points for Douglass (5-13). The Broncos have lost six of their last seven games.
Henry Clay 41, Lafayette 33: Kiya Thompson scored 18 points, hitting eight of 16 shots from the field, as the host Blue Devils pulled away in the second half. Braxton Price scored all 12 of her points in a 12-for-15 performance at the free-throw line for Henry Clay (13-9), which forced 21 turnovers that led to 18 points.
Lindi DeBilzan had a team-high 11 points and Rylie Grantz added 10 points and seven rebounds for Lafayette (18-6). The loss snapped a nine-game winning streak by the Generals.
