Several of the state’s top high school teams and players will be in Lexington for a basketball showcase on Saturday. The Jock Sutherland Classic, hosted by Lafayette High School, features a four-game slate of boys’ games.

The day kicks off with Cordia vs. West Jessamine at 2:45 p.m. The Colts (12-7) have three players who average double-figure scoring — Dalton Bruner (17.9), Skyler Cannady (15.4) and Drew Cook (14.2) — while the Lions (12-11) have four — Kareem McDonald (18.8), Marquis Frazier (13.1), Oumar Keita (10.5) and Darryen Pringle (10.0).

Scott County — ranked No. 1 in Dave Cantrall’s Rating the State and in the latest Associated Press poll — takes on John Hardin at 4:30 p.m. The Cardinals, led by junior star and likely 2019 Mr. Basketball contender Michael Moreno (19.2 points, 10.9 rebounds), are the only team in the state that hasn’t lost to a Kentucky opponent. Mickey Pearson, a likely Mr. Basketball finalist, is averaging 27.2 points and 11 rebounds for the Bulldogs (18-5). Potential Mr. Basketball candidate Cooper Robb, a Charlotte signee averaging 14.4 points, has been nursing an ankle sprain but is expected to return for Scott County (22-1).

Two more likely Mr. Basketball contenders face off in a bout between Corbin and Mercer County at 6:15 p.m. Trevon Faulkner, a Northern Kentucky signee, averages 26.4 points and nine rebounds for the Titans (18-4), who are undefeated against 12th Region competition. Furman signee Andrew Taylor averages 27.9 points and 10.3 rebounds for the Redhounds (16-4).

Cobe Penny, a Bellarmine-bound senior from Anderson County, rounds out the likely Mr. Basketball candidates who will take the floor Saturday. He’s averaging 23.4 points and 6.9 rebounds for the Bearcats (7-11), who will take on host Lafayette — ranked sixth in the Cantrall Ratings and eighth by the media — at 8 p.m. Eric Powell (14.0), Ray Surratt (11.6) and Cam King (10.5) average double-figure scoring for the Generals (16-5).

Gary Moore Classic

Franklin County will host its annual Gary Moore Classic on Saturday. Here’s the full slate of games:

Western Hills vs. Paul Laurence Dunbar, 1:45 p.m.: The Bulldogs have won four of their last seven games after a 2-10 start to the season. Isaiah Allen, a junior, leads them with 13.7 points a night.

Frankfort vs. Eastern, 3:30 p.m.: With its 66-64 overtime victory at Woodford County last Friday, Frankfort secured its first regular-season sweep of the 41st District since the 2001-02 season, when current Dunbar Coach Scott Chalk was leading the program. Four players average in double-figure scoring for the Panthers: John Tillman (17.4), Juanya Frank (17.0), Cody Carter (10.6) and DaJuan Davis (10.4). Tillman leads the team in rebounding with 10.3 boards a night.

Franklin County vs. Elizabethtown, 5:15 p.m. (girls): E-town is ranked third in the Cantrall Ratings and has only one loss (to No. 2 Campbell County). Franklin County is the three-time defending 11th Region champion.

Franklin County vs. Pleasure Ridge Park, 7 p.m.: Junior Kyle Stivers leads the Flyers (10-13) with 13.8 points a night while senior Walker Lee averages 10 points and 7.3 rebounds. Jared Courtney, a sophomore, rounds out a trio of double-digit scorers with 10.6 points.
