High school highlights: LCA dominates Lafayette; Scott County clips Henry Clay

A top-10 matchup that looked like a coin-flip on paper turned into a bit of a rout in reality as the triple-tower attack of Kyle Rode, Austin Hall and Carter Hendrickson helped host Lexington Christian knock off Lafayette 71-56 on Friday night.

The Eagles, ranked No. 7 in the latest Dave Cantrall ratings, dominated the paint. They outrebounded the sixth-ranked Generals 34-21 and led by as much as 24 points before Lafayette made a couple of late runs.

The Generals twice cut LCA’s lead to eight, the last time on a three-pointer by Ray Surratt with 2:51 to play, but Hendrickson slammed the door as the clock wound under two minutes. Trailing a fast break, the senior forward’s put-back dunk gave the Eagles a 67-56 lead. Then Hendrickson swiped a steal in the paint and started another successful fast break. He came up with another steal two possessions later.

Hendrickson finished with 18 points, six rebounds, five assists and five steals. Rode had a double-double with 21 points and 12 rebounds and added four blocks. Hall had a game-high 21 points on 8-of-11 shooting and pulled down eight rebounds. LCA (19-6) shot 55.8 percent from the field as a team. The Eagles have won 12 straight since a road loss to Lexington Catholic on Jan. 2.

TeAndre Newcomb and Surratt led Lafayette (16-6) with 11 points each. The loss snapped a three-game win streak by the Generals.

Scott County 73, Henry Clay 65: The No. 1-ranked Cardinals struggled to put away a feisty Henry Clay squad, leading the No. 21 Blue Devils by just three points heading into the fourth quarter. But behind a double-double by big-man Michael Moreno, the host Cardinals reeled off their 15th straight win.

Henry Clay (13-10) got within one point at 59-58 with 4:29 to play but never took the lead in the fourth quarter. Moreno finished with 28 points, 12 rebounds and five blocks for Scott County (23-1). West Jessamine 78, East Jessamine 55: Dalton Bruner scored a game-high 23 points to lead the visiting Colts past their cross-county rivals. Skyler Cannady chipped in 14 points for West Jessamine (13-7). Ben Thompson had a team-best 20 for East Jessamine (10-6).
