Opening day of All ‘A’ Classic delivers a pair of down-to-the-wire thrillers.
A three-point game and an overtime duel provided the highlights on the opening day of the All “A” Classic small-school basketball state championships in Richmond on Wednesday.
Eight first-round girls’ games played out at McBrayer Arena on the campus of Eastern Kentucky University. Eight first-round boys’ games are scheduled for Thursday.
First-round winners Wednesday were Bethlehem, West Carter, Glasgow, Danville, Owensboro Catholic, Murray, Walton-Verona and Shelby Valley.

Walton-Verona escaped the first round with a 43-41 overtime win over Newport Central Catholic. In the most-anticipated matchup of the opening round, Owensboro Catholic tripped up Bishop Brossart, 33-30.
The boys’ tournament was to tip off at 8:30 a.m. Thursday with West Carter facing Owensboro Catholic.
