Here are the 2020 Lexington All-City girls’ basketball teams and player of the year

The Lexington Herald-Leader and Kentucky.com are proud to present the 2019-2020 All-City girls’ high school basketball teams and player of the year as voted on by the nine coaches of Lexington’s varsity KHSAA programs.

This year’s Player of the Year honor goes to Paul Laurence Dunbar junior Elise-Ellison Coons, who led her team with 16.7 points and 10.6 rebounds per game. She was a first-team selection last season, as well, a second-team selection as a freshman and is the younger sister of two-time All-City Player of the Year Kiara Pankins (2016, 2017). Ellison-Coons crossed the 1,000-rebound mark for her career this season.

Tates Creek’s Maddie Kauffman, just a sophomore, finished second in the voting and received two-first place votes to Ellison-Coons’ six. They join Bryan Station’s Natoria Godoy, Lafayette’s Anaya Brown and Sayre’s Kylee Dennis on the All-City First Team.

The nine KHSAA varsity girls’ basketball coaches in Lexington were asked to nominate three players from their team for All-City consideration. Later, the coaches were asked to rank, one through 10, their top players from that list of nominees (they were not permitted to vote for their own players). Point values were assigned to each voting position (10 points for first-place votes, nine points for second-place votes, etc.) and the accumulation of those points was used to create the first and second teams.
