High school basketball highlights: Lafayette boys beat LexCath

Lafayette’s boys, who led by three early in the fourth quarter, scored 12 straight points to pull away for a 56-45 victory at home against Lexington Catholic. Ross Jenkins scored five of his game-high 16 points during the run.

Lucky Jackson had 13 points, 10 rebounds and three assists for the Generals, who held the Knights to 31.8 percent from the field. Harrison Lane pitched in with 14 points and three assists.

Jarod Griffin led Lexington Catholic with 13 points, four rebounds and three assists.

Elizabethtown trailed by 16 points early in the third quarter before Austin Freyberger’s layup and free throw with two seconds left completed the Panthers’ 62-59 come-from-behind victory against Bryan Station in the Bluegrass Cellular New Year’s Eve Classic at Central Hardin.

Freyberger finished with 16 points, and Guy Williams had 18 points and 10 rebounds. The Defenders got 12 points, seven rebounds, four assists and two steals from Andre Davis.

Isaiah Tisdale had 15 points, nine rebounds, two assists and two steals in Henry Clay’s 64-45 rout of Franklin County in Frankfort. Jordan Houston added 14 points and nine boards, and Felix Wilson had 10 assists.

Morgan County started the second quarter on a 10-0 run and cruised from there to a 60-38 victory against Sayre in West Liberty. Holden Redparth scored 24 points, grabbed seven rebounds and had four steals for the Cougars.

Hagen Tyler scored 28 points and Colton Elkins had 11 to go with 11 rebounds in Boyle County’s 72-64 victory at home against Clay County.

Owen County improved to 12-2 with a 65-41 win against visiting Gallatin County. Carson Williams had 19 points and 11 rebounds.

Buckhorn’s Connor Hopkins had 30 points and 12 rebounds in a 74-60 win at Jackson City.

Girls’ highlights:

Justus Martin scored 17 points, grabbed 10 rebounds and also had three blocks and two steals in Shelby County’s 53-42 victory over Lafayette in the Staxx BBQ Shootout at Franklin County. The Rockets limited the Lady Generals to 30.4 percent from the field and outrebounded them 38-22. Dee Givens hit three three-pointers and finished with 22 points, three rebounds and three steals for Lafayette.

Henry Clay opened with 17-2 run and forced 43 turnovers in a 78-16 victory against Fairdale in Lexington. Kennedy Coney and Cheyenne Jones tied for game-high scoring honors with 12 apiece. Braxton Price had six steals.

Peyton Riddle hit three three-pointers and finished with 15 points, five assists and two steals in Scott County’s 63-49 victory at Muhlenberg County. Sidney Southerland added 14 points, 11 rebounds and two blocks for the Lady Cardinals.

Paul Laurence Dunbar’s Ezzy Ighodaro scored 19 points and dished out five assists in a 62-54 win against Montgomery County in Lexington.

Dee Dee Wheeler scored 12 points and Isabel Pergande had nine to go with 10 rebounds in Sayre’s 42-35 at Bethlehem.

Asia Sims’ 25 points and 10 rebounds sent Bourbon County past host Madison Central 48-36.

McCreary Central junior Kaylee Cotton scored a career-high 39 points and pulled down 11 rebounds in a 71-57 defeat of visiting Hazard.
