Last season: 16-12 (lost to Madison Southern in first round of 11th Region Tournament)

Coach: Scott True (fourth year)

Key contributors:

1. Sarah Bonn: 5-8, senior forward who is the team’s leading returning rebounder after averaging four per game last year. “Sarah can play anything from the three to the five,” True said.

2. Caroline Osbourn: 5-7, senior guard who is the team’s leading returning scorer. She averaged 7.8 points per game as a junior. True said she can play any position from point guard through power forward.

Others to watch: Jay Ballard, a 5-4 freshman point guard who True  expects to be a key cog in the offense. “She shoots a lot of threes and she’s got a really nice shot,” True said. Also, Courtney Bailey, a 5-7 sophomore center who only played in 12 games as a freshman but is expected to be a key contributor this year.

Games you gotta see: The Knights host the Traditional Bank Holiday Classic starting Dec. 19 and draw Lexington Christian at home on Jan. 6, then take on the Eagles on the road Feb. 5. Lexington Catholic swept the series last year.

Fast facts: The Knights dropped their first four games last season and didn’t reach .500 until Dec. 31. They ended strong, putting together a six-game win streak and reached the 11th Region Tournament for the first time since 2012.

Coach’s corner

On the team’s progression: “We’re developing well. We’ve got good senior leadership but it’s gonna be tough. We’re replacing about 80 percent of our offense and 70 percent of our rebounding. But our kids are working hard.”

On the senior tandem of Bonn and Osbourn: “We’re gonna look to them a lot. We’re gonna go as they go a lot ...We’re gonna use them in a lot of different places and try to get some things out of them to compensate for youth in other spots.”

On team depth: “We’ll play more players this year. We’ll play eight or nine on a given night, maybe sometimes as many as 10 depending on matchups. So our depth will really help us late in the season.”

Bench talk

Caroline Osbourn: On team chemistry ... “We’re starting to become more of a team. We’re starting to connect more because we lost a lot last year.”

Sarah Bonn: “We’re a young team but we’re really starting to bond and get to know how each other plays ... it’s been a challenge talking and really getting the feel for each other.”

On this season’s expectations ... “I think we’re the underdog out of everyone because we lost so many seniors last year. No one sees us coming but I think we’ll be a lot better than people think we’ll be.”
