Rating the State: Trinity football debuts at No. 1; Frederick Douglass ranked for 1st time
Trinity, in its first week eligible for Dave Cantrall’s Rating the State for high school football in Kentucky, debuted in the No. 1 spot.
The undefeated Shamrocks topped Jeffersontown 40-6 for their second win of the season against an in-state school.
Teams must have played at least two in-state opponents to be ranked. Trinity had previously beaten Carmel (Ind.), Warren Central (Indianapolis), Archbishop Moeller (Cincinnati), Male and Champagnat Catholic (Hialeah, Fla.).
Covington Catholic dropped one spot to second, followed by Scott County, Male and St. Xavier.
The No. 5 Tigers are Trinity’s next opponent.
▪ Lexington’s newest program, Frederick Douglass, is in Cantrall’s top 25 for the first time.
The Broncos, ranked 24th, have won four straight games, including Friday’s 52-0 rout of Paul Laurence Dunbar.
