Another area football star, team see season end in an eastern Kentucky shootout
Another Central Kentucky football team this week ended up on the wrong side of a postseason shootout in the mountains.
Lexington Catholic fell, 55-51, at Belfry in the second round of the Class 3A KHSAA Commonwealth Gridiron Bowl playoffs on Friday night, one week after Western Hills and UK commit Wandale Robinson lost a 78-74 decision at Lawrence County.
Beau Allen — a University of Kentucky target who also has offers from Michigan and Duke — finished with 451 yards and six TD passes on 34 of 55 passing but also threw three interceptions. Allen hit Brennan Emnett for a 20-yard TD to put the Knights up 51-48 with 5:35 to play but Belfry’s Brett Coleman responded with the go-ahead score with 1:26 to play. LexCath drove to the Pirates’ 34-yard line but couldn’t get closer.
Allen rushed for 197 yards and one TD on 19 carries. He ended his junior season with 3,729 yards, 42 TDs and nine picks on 233 of 357 passing.
Isaac Dixon, a Belfry sophomore who returned one of Allen’s interceptions 100 yards for a touchdown to give Belfry a 48-44 lead with 7 seconds left in the third quarter, rushed for 299 yards and 3 TDs on 13 carries.
