Romans poised to become all-time leading trainer at Churchill
Louisville-based trainer Dale Romans is on the verge of tying Hall of Famer Bill Mott as the all-time leading trainer in races won at Churchill Downs.
Entering racing Wednesday, Romans trails Mott 701-699.
Romans, who won the Eclipse Award as Outstanding Trainer in 2012, has entered two horses on Wednesday’s Churchill card — 9-2 second choice Hollywood Star in the fourth race and 5-2 favorite Flying Tipat in the seventh.
First post Wednesday is 5 p.m.
Romans, 50, has won 1,921 races at all tracks. He also has 1,766 second-place finishes and 1,626 thirds from 12,338 career starters. Romans has won 41 races this year from 220 starts.
