Fields drawn for Saturday’s Pegasus World Cup races. Here’s how they shape up.

Omaha Beach, the horse who was scratched from last year’s Kentucky Derby as the morning-line favorite, will have one last chance to make memories on a big stage this weekend.

The 4-year-old colt was made the 7-5 morning-line favorite in a field of 12 for Saturday’s $3 million Pegasus World Cup at Gulfstream Park.

Omaha Beach, who will be retired to stud after Saturday’s race, was scratched from the 2019 Kentucky Derby three days before the race after the discovery of a condition that affected his breathing. He missed the entire Triple Crown season and did not return to racing until Oct. 5 when he won the Grade 1 Santa Anita Sprint Championship. He then finished second in the Breeders’ Cup Dirt Mile at Santa Anita on Nov. 2 and bounced back to win the Grade 1 Malibu Stakes at Santa Anita on Dec. 28.

Omaha Beach, who will be ridden by Mike Smith from post-position No. 5 in Saturday’s 1 1/8-mile Pegasus, worked 3 furlongs Sunday in his final tune-up for the race.

“We didn’t want him to overdo it because we’re within a week of the race,” trainer Richard Mandella said in a news release. “(The exercise rider) said he felt like a Cadillac. Actually, like a Porsche.”

The horse who beat Omaha Beach in the Breeders’ Cup, Spun to Run, was made the 7-2 second choice for the Pegasus. Spun to Run, who will be ridden by Javier Castellano from the No. 9 post, has five wins among 12 career starts.

Bob Baffert trainee Mucho Gusto is the 9-2 third choice. The 4-year-old finished second in last year’s Haskell Invitational and third in the Travers Stakes.

Magic Wand was installed Wednesday as the 7-2 morning-line favorite for Saturday’s $1 million Pegasus World Cup Turf at Gulfstream.
