Post times were announced Thursday for all 22 races during the 2020 Breeders’ Cup World Championships weekend.

The two-day event, which will award more than $31 million in purses, is scheduled to be run Nov. 6-7 at Keeneland Race Course in Lexington with no fans in attendance.

Because of the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, only essential personnel and media will be allowed at the track. A total of 14 Breeders’ Cup Championships races will be held over the course of both days.

Ten races will be held on Future Stars Friday, including all five Breeders’ Cup World Championship races for 2-year-olds. Friday’s undercard will begin with Race No. 1 at 11:30 a.m.

Race No. 6 will kick off the Breeders’ Cup slate on Friday, with a post time of 2:30 p.m. Friday’s 10th and final race, the $2 million Breeders’ Cup Juvenile, has a post time of 5:10 p.m.

On Saturday, the three-race undercard will open with Race No. 1 at 10:15 a.m. Nine straight Breeders’ Cup contests will get underway with Race No. 4 at 12:02 p.m. The action will conclude with race No. 12, the $6 million Breeders’ Cup Classic, at 5:13 p.m.

“This year’s World Championships will take place after Daylight Savings Time ends on Sunday, November 1. We wanted to ensure that our fans, racetrack and ADW partners have the schedule of EST post times in plenty of time to make arrangements to watch and wager on two days of world-class international racing at Keeneland Race Course,” Breeders’ Cup executive vice president and chief racing officer Dora Delgado said in a news release.

The official race order and wagering menu for both days of the Breeders’ Cup Championships will be released on Wednesday, Oct. 28.

Maximum Security back on track

Unbeaten in two starts for Bob Baffert, Gary and Mary West’s Maximum Security, the No. 1-ranked horse in the NTRA Top Thoroughbred Poll and the potential favorite for the Breeders’ Cup Classic at Keeneland, heads a field of five in the Awesome Again Stakes at Santa Anita on Saturday.

Maximum Security, coming off a win in the Grade 1 Pacific Classic on Aug. 22, is the 3-5 favorite. Baffert’s Improbable, winner of the Grade 1 Whitney Stakes at Saratoga on Aug. 1, will be bidding for his third consecutive win as the 8-5 second choice.

Jug winner

Captain Barbossa and driver Joe Bongiorno took advantage of an early speed duel between the elimination winners and won the 75th edition of the Little Brown Jug harness race at Delaware, Ohio, on Thursday.

Captain Barbossa drew off and defeated a closing Cattlewash by 1 1/2 lengths in 1:49.1. Catch The Fire held on for third and Sandbetweenmytoes was fourth.

It was the first Jug title for trainer Tony Alagna and Bongiorno.
