Keeneland

There’s a horse with a familiar name racing at Keeneland Thursday: ‘Brea From Three’

A horse named after former Kentucky basketball sharp shooter Koby Brea will race Thursday at Keeneland.

The horse, named “Brea From Three,” will run the first race of the day at 1 p.m. The race features 2-year-old maidens and will run 4 1/2 furlongs, according to the racing website Equibase.

Maiden races feature horses that have not previously won a race.

There is a $90,000 purse for the race. Brea From Three’s odds are 15-1, the third-longest odds in the eight-horse race, according to Equibase. The odds are fitting for a shooter like Brea, known for hitting shots from long range.

Brea himself noticed the horse on Keeneland’s start list, and he responded on X that the horse’s name was “pretty cool.”

The horse is owned by Nicholas Greathouse and Kelly Colliver with Run Like Elle 2, LLC, according to Equibase. Brea From Three is trained by John Ennis and will be ridden by Walter Rodriguez.

Brea quickly became a fan favorite during his one year at Kentucky. After transferring from Dayton, where he led the country in 3-point percentage during the 2023-24 season, Brea shot 44% from 3 and scored a career-high 11.6 points per game during his one year as a Wildcat.

Brea made 93 3-pointers this past season, tied for the seventh-most in program history during a single season. He also ranks fourth in program history in 3-point field-goal percentage (minimum 150 attempts).
